Why do we sleep?
A very common question, isn’t it?
Imagine this we spend one third of our life sleeping and not knowing why we do it or what is the purpose of it.
Well if your answer is… we sleep to give rest to our mind, then, think again because when we go to sleep, after 90 minutes or so our mind become as active as it was when we were awake.
Once a person goes to sleep the functioning of the brain slows down but says about after 90 minutes his/her brain suddenly starts functioning in a rapid speed and it seems like a person is awake. Scientist called this stage of sleep as “REM Sleep”.
And the most magical part is that when you wake up from REM Sleep whatever that was there in your mind start vanishing and that is what differentiate REM Sleep from wakefulness.
Now I hope everyone knows that we dream about our day to day problems, sometimes we do dream about the things for which we are excited and sometimes there are dreams that sense no logic.
Well that is true but it is an answer to what we dream not why we dream.
So what is the answer to why? Well the answer is…
We all dream to keep our life stress free.
When a person is at the stage of REM Sleep his/her mind recollect all the thoughts that are important in his life, analysis it and search a solution to it. You might have noticed people going for a sleep while they are stressed and when they wake up in the morning they feel relaxed. There is no magic that happened during sleep. It’s just that your mind has already found a solution to it and therefore you find that problem irrelevant now.
But sometime we put ourselves into such a big problem that it becomes difficult for our sub conscious mind to solve that problem that is why sometime we just get up at mid night and feel scared and tensed.
We dream not just to find solution to our problems; it’s a lot bigger than that.
When we are asleep, our mind gets connected to the universe. Sometimes we dreams weird things, we see pictures of creatures that we haven’t seen in our life before, we see images of human being we haven’t met ever in our life and sometime we see ourselves standing at a place where we have never been before.
And as soon as we come from the stage of REM Sleep to wakefulness, those images starts disappearing. You remember what you saw but no matter how hard you try you are unable to recall the image.
Now what if I say that whatever we see in our dreams in not just our imagination but is a reality.
Yes that is true. As I said earlier, when we go to sleep our mind gets connected to the universe. Whatever weird images we see in our dreams, actually are real.
Below is just a small example to justify it…
We are sitting at a place maybe a coffee shop and a girl passes by; or we are sitting in class room and teacher is telling something; or we are sitting in our office and something irrelevant happens and suddenly we feel that all the above incident has occurred with me earlier as well.
In actual they have not occurred earlier, it’s just that you have dreamt of it.
So in our dreams we do see futures as well.
So now if you will ask me that why we dream?
My answer is…
- We dream so that our day to day problem is sorted out and we can live a peaceful life.
- We dream to get sign from the universe. Sign to take the correct path.
- We dream so that we can live our both the worlds (real world and imaginary world) happily.
So next time you wake up in the morning don’t say you had a weird dream because you never know what the universe wanted you to know. So just try to analyze your dreams
